Casting director Lissy Holm

Att hantera allas förväntningar och besvikelser är den största utmaningen för en casting director, enligt Lissy Holm. Regissörer och producenter lider när de inte får den skådespelare de drömt om och skådespelare lider då de inte blir valda för jobbet. Så snart det finns möjlighet träffar hon skådespelare från Skandinavien och övriga Europa.

I samband med Hello Actors VIP hade vi möjligheten att prata med Casting director Lissy Holm.

Lissy Holm är baserad i England men arbetar även med flera amerikanska produktioner. Flera av projekten har världskända regissörer och skådespelare knutna till sig och i vissa fall är stjärnorna redan bokade för roller.

- Often we are involved at a very early stage in production, helping to secure the ”names” that are needed in order to trigger the finance for the film. Other times there may be one or two actors already attached when we begin. Either way, the casting process is a jigsaw and we are there to help fit the pieces together.

Även om storleken på produktionerna kan variera är castingprocessen för film ganska lika i England och USA.

- We’ve been lucky with the US Directors and Casting Directors that we have collaborated with in that they have worked in a similar way to us and shared our creative vision. However, our experience of US TV is that there are many more executives involved in the decision making and this can have a significant impact on the length of the casting process.

Efter en rad provfilmningar, hur väljer du ut vilken skådespelare som ska presenteras för regissören?

- Every Director is different. Some will want to see many actors for each part, others will only want to see a few. We begin with a wide interpretation of the role and in the end the actors who are selected are the ones closest to the director’s vision of the character.
